Last Post Of 2011

It's been three months since I've started blogging so I don't have a ton of posts yet. Writing has never been my strong suit but blogging has been something I've wanted to start for a while now.  I hope you've been encouraged by this blog.  I really look forward to what 2012 will bring as I continue to write in hopes to encourage youth workers and students through this blog.

Would love to hear your comments on a post that you've connected with or any feedback you may have about the blog.

Yep...It's Definitely Crossed My Mind Before!!!!

Trying something new!!!
It's almost the end of the year and everyone is thinking about creating their New Year's resolutions.  Last year has its regrets and we are usually having a few different thoughts going through our mind as the year comes to a close.  I know that I've had a few of these thoughts cross my mind before.

  • I have all these plans that I never got to start.
  • I'm in the same place I was when the year began.
  • I'm doing worse than when the year started.
  • This year was the worst year of my life.
  • I've made decisions this year that has changed my life for the worst.
I would encourage you to think about this verse as you think about this New Year. Also, remember there's nothing you can do about the past and what you do in the present shapes the future.  As you create new goals for yourself or ministry I would love for you to think about this scripture verse:

Proverbs 3:6
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

Just because our plans are God centered doesn't mean we always include God  in the planning.  Without thinking our mindset defaults to the fact that what we are planning involves worshiping or sharing God's love then  he's a part of it.  That's just not so. Things to think about as you plan:

  • Acknowledge that God has a plan and purpose for your life or ministry.
  • Create goals that are realistic.  It's OK to set achievable goals.  One year I set a goal to make it on the Olympics swimming team.  Never happened.  A better goal would've been to learn how to swim.(jk) but you get my point.
  • Then allow God the freedom to direct you so that you remain in his will.  God is definitely not against us setting goals.  He wants us to do so but he also know that we are not perfect.  So he wants to make sure we achieve our goal the right way while fulfilling the purpose he has for us.  That can only be achieved if he's in the planning process.

Take a different approach this year when creating your New Year's resolution and acknowledge God's purpose for your ministry or life.  Give Him control of your plans so He can direct you.  Set goals for the New Year with God's purpose and will in mind.  It will bring you more fulfillment and peace in your pursuit of those goals.  So take the verse to heart and apply it to each goal.

hope it helps
